Skills

A skill is an ability to do something well that an actor possess and consistently demonstrates.

Here are some examples: driving, skiing, cooking, cleaning a toilet, running a meeting, writing a novel, problem solving, measuring current or voltage, starting a business, and so on.

Typically, we are interested in skills done well. For example, we like to like to visit medical doctors who are competent and caring. We like to listen to musicians who play music that touches our soul. We like to hire lawyers who are good at what they do and who charge us a fair price for their services. Similarly, most of us want our skills to be good: we want to be good at sports that we love, we want to be skilled at our professions, we want to write well, we want to be good at problem solving.

Skills have the following things in common. A skill involves taking a {set of actions} that cause a {set of rewards} while striving minimize a {set of drawbacks}. In addition, most skills involve knowledge. For example, it is hard to write effective computer code without knowledge of coding languages and practices.
