Goal State in Design

Goal State (Meaning)

A problem is a gap between the present state (conditions as they exist right now) and the goal state (desirable conditions as they can exist in the future).

Design is one way to close the gap between present state and the goal state.

Formally the goal state is defined as the best conditions that can exist in the future given the context (surrounding circumstances).

The term best is defined as.

  1. The most favorable outcomes (end results).
  2. The fewest drawbacks: stress, conflict, effort, cost, time, hassles, waste
  3. The most rewards: satisfaction, connections, learning, financial rewards, and so on.
