Cruft is a slang terms used by computer programmers that can be generalized to mean code that is not needed, often getting in the way.
I have generalize this definition as follows.
Cruft: Cruft refers to unnecessary crap that should be eliminated because it gets in the way or distracts while providing little or not value.
Examples of Cruft:
When we get rid of unnecessary stuff in a computer program, we are getting rid of cruft.
Any unnecessary stuff in a textbook is cruft.
Any unnecessary stuff in a meeting is cruft.
If I explain something in five minutes and could have done this in thirty seconds, all my extra verbiage is cruft.
Many website have a great deal of crap on them, typically directed at trying to sell me stuff or to get me to click.
