Cruft

Cruft is a slang terms used by computer programmers that can be generalized to mean code that is not needed, often getting in the way.

I have generalize this definition as follows.

Cruft: Cruft refers to unnecessary crap that should be eliminated because it gets in the way or distracts while providing little or not value.

Examples of Cruft:

  1. When we get rid of unnecessary stuff in a computer program, we are getting rid of cruft.

  2. Any unnecessary stuff in a textbook is cruft.

  3. Any unnecessary stuff in a meeting is cruft.

  4. If I explain something in five minutes and could have done this in thirty seconds, all my extra verbiage is cruft.

  5. Many website have a great deal of crap on them, typically directed at trying to sell me stuff or to get me to click.
