Improving at Design
This skill refers to when a person becomes better at design on an ongoing basis.
Rationale
Feels great to grow, aka improve performance.
Better results + fewer drawbacks (stress, cost, time, effort, hassles, waste, and so on.) + more rewards (satisfaction, connections, learning, financial rewards, and so on.)
How to Improve at Design
Observation
Pay attention to designs around you. Figure out how the designers proceeded. Figure out how they solved problems, and so on.
Read or listen to great designers talk and “borrow” ideas.
Learn by Doing
Design and build something that challenges you but not too much.
On an ongoing basis, apply RT (reflective thinking) to grow your performance as a designer.
